 Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is a 160-bed community hospital serving the rapidly growing suburbs of western Fairfax and eastern Loudoun Counties, Virginia. Inova recently expanded this hospital from 419,804 S.F. of hospital, medical office, assisted living housing, and day care uses to 684,112 S.F. of such uses on their 64-acre campus.Wells + Associates provided comprehensive traffic engineering services to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, including traffic signal installation and modification plans for two key off-site intersections: Rugby Road/Alder Woods Drive and Rugby Road/Fairfax Parkway, to ensure  coordination and optimum traffic flow through the intersections.Wells + Associates prepared signal timing plans for the AM, mid-day, PM, off-peak, and weekend peak periods, using the Synchro/Sim Traffic software. Input values for turn bay lengths, speed limits, signal phasing, and red and yellow clearances, used for this analysis, were derived from Wells + Associates’ traffic signal design and engineering site plans. Throughout the study and planning process, Wells + Associates worked closely with the hospital and Virginia Department of Transportation staff to build consensus on plans regarding transportation and operational issues. |
