| Subregion 1 Master Plan |
| Update and Design Charette - Prince George’s County, Maryland |
The Subregion 1 Master Plan area comprises the six-mile long corridor of U.S. Route 1 from the I-95/Capital Beltway to Cherry Lane and adjacent commercial and residential neighborhoods in the City of Laurel, Maryland.
The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC) recently prepared a master plan that provides a framework and guide to revitalization and redevelopment along the corridor. The plan includes an analysis of land use, economic, and transportation opportunities and constraints.
Wells + Associates participated in a five-day charette and prepared the transportation element of the plan. This included an evaluation of the existing multi-modal transportation network, review of past studies and plans, review of programmed and planned improvements, identification of existing challenges and opportunities, projection of future traffic volumes, and development of short- and long- range transportation improvements.
Wells + Associates recommended: new highway, local street, and alley linkages; closure of intersections and commercial access; new traffic signals; a transit strategy; pedestrian enhancements; new bicycle trials and connections to existing trails, and traffic calming measures for adjacent neighborhoods. |
