| Sector Plan and SMA - Prince George’s County, Maryland |
The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC), at the request of the Town of Bladensburg, prepared a new Bladensburg Town Center Sector Plan and Sectional Map Amendment (SMA) to the 1994 Master Plan.
The new plan establishes policies and strategies to guide future growth and to promote pedestrian activity and a livable community to support the future economic expansion within the town center. The planning process included community input through a charette process and analysis of zoning, land use, economic, and transportation constraints and opportunities.
Wells + Associates participated in a five-day charette and prepared the transportation element of the Plan. This included evaluation of the existing multi-modal transportation network, review of past studies and plans, review of programmed and planned improvements, identification of existing challenges and opportunities, projection of future traffic volumes, and development of short- and long- range transportation improvements within the Town Center.
Wells + Associates recommended traffic calming and pedestrian improvements to Annapolis Road which bisects the Town Center, changes to commercial access, new traffic signals, a transit strategy, pedestrian enhancements to the adjacent waterfront, new bicycle trails and connections to existing trails, and strategies to reduce truck traffic impacts within residential portions of the Town Center. |
