McLean Bible Church, a non-denominational church, is one of the fastest growing churches in the nation. McLean Bible Church recently relocated their church to a new 43-acre site purchased from the National Wildlife Federation, on Route 7 west of Tysons Corner in Fairfax County, Virginia. The new 224,500 square foot church will include a 2,400-seat sanctuary and associated ministries, a 150-student day care facility, and community youth center.
The church retained Wells + Associates to conduct a traffic impact study in support of a special exception application to Fairfax County. This included an evaluation of existing and future traffic conditions using traditional methods and a NETSIM micro-simulation model. The study demonstrated that acceptable weekday and Sunday peak hour traffic operations would be maintained with the recommended improvements at the site entrances without affecting through traffic movements on Route 7.
Working closely with the church, project architects, and site civil engineers, Wells + Associates developed parking and traffic operation plans for multiple Sunday services. We participated in meetings with Fairfax County and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff, local civic associations, the Fairfax County Planning Commission, and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Board unanimously approved the church application. |
