Edmund Burke School
Washington, D.C.
Edmund Burke School (Burke) is an urban, co-educational, independent, college preparatory school located in the northwest section of Washington, D.C.  Two hundred ninety six (296) students of varied backgrounds are enrolled in grades 6-12.

Burke proposes to add a new building and increase enrollment to 320 students.  Forty seven new parking spaces would be added in two underground parking levels.  The new building would, for the first time, provide an on-site, off-street drop-off/pick-up lane, for up to 15 cars and shuttle buses.

Wells + Associates prepared a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) for the school, working with the school, project architect, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and neighbors.  The TMP includes: measures to encourage walking and transit use; Metro fare subsidies; shuttle bus service; a carpool program; prohibition of the use of certain streets, alleys, and drop-off/pick-up locations; restrictions on student parking; and an event traffic and parking management plan; and service/delivery management plan.

Wells + Associates participated in many public meetings with the Burke community, neighbors, and the Burke Neighborhood Advisory Committee (BNAC), and will provide expert witness testimony before the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA).
