The Woods Academy is an independent, co-educational Catholic school, enrolling students from Montessori Pre-school to grade eight. The current enrollment of 302 students is served by a staff of 60.
Most students are driven to school. A Montgomery County police officer, the facility manger, and three staff members are stationed on–site during both morning and afternoon school peak periods to facilitate traffic operations and to prevent vehicle queue from spilling over onto Greentree Road.
Wells & Associates evaluated the transportation impacts of increasing enrollment from 302 to 410 students. This evaluation included analyses of existing and projected numbers of peak hour trips, impacts at six off-site intersections, and impacts on on-site queues.
We determined that the proposed student enrollment cap increase from 302 to 410 students will maintain the compatibility of the school with the adjacent development based on the minimal transportation impacts on the area road networks, the ability to maintain queues on-site, and the proposed Transportation Management Plan.
Wells & Associates also participated in various meetings including a community meeting in a consensus building process to address traffic concerns.
