Langley School is an independent, co-educational day school, enrolling students from ages three to fourteen in pre-kindergarten to grade eight. Ninety-one (91) part- and full-time faculty and staff serve 473 students.
Many students are transported by 12 school buses that operate on six routes. Most students are driven to school, however. Carpools completely fill two short lanes provided on campus and spill over onto Balls Hill Road during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
Wells + Associates observed and quantified existing traffic operation problems, identified the number of carpool lane and parking spaces required to serve existing needs, and developed and evaluated four alternative plans for meeting these needs. The recommended plan included a longer drop-off/pick-up lane, measures to improve traffic safety in the drop-off/pick-up lane, improved on-site circulation, and measures to increase carpool and bus use.
Wells + Associates also developed interim traffic and parking operations plans to be implemented during construction of a new performing arts center. |
