Washington Adventist Hospital (WAH) was founded in 1907 as the Washington Sanitarium in a rural area on the fringes of the nations capital. The dense, culturally diverse, urban community of Takoma Park has grown around the hospital in the ensuing 95 years.
Today, WAH is a 322-bed, 455,092-square-foot, state-of-the-art acute care facility that employs nearly 2,000 workers and 750 physicians. WAH is currently planning a 195,000-square-foot expansion, including a 144,000-square-foot medical office building.
Wells + Associates was retained by WAH to evaluate the traffic and parking impacts of this expansion. This included assessment of existing traffic and parking demands, projections of future parking needs, analysis of hospital traffic impacts on the two major hospital driveways and 11 off-site intersections, and evaluation of multiple, alternative plans for accommodating long-range parking needs on the hospital campus.
Wells + Associates continues to work closely with Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC) staff and the WAH Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to formulate and review the hospitals expansion plans. |
