| Suburban Hospital |
| North Bethesda - Montgomery County, Maryland |
Suburban Hospital is located on Old Georgetown Road, across from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and adjacent to the Huntington Terrace residential neighborhood.
The hospital proposes to expand the existing campus building square footage by 144,400 S.F. (or 32 percent), from 454,200 to 598,600 S.F., and to increase the number of on-site parking spaces by 365 spaces (or 50 percent), from 735 to 1,100 spaces. Lincoln Street, which currently bisects the campus, would be closed in order to unify the campus.
Wells + Associates studies demonstrated that the proposed site plan and existing off-site roads could adequately accommodate the proposed street closure and hospital expansion. Existing hospital traffic and parking characteristics, and neighborhood cut-through traffic, were identified through extensive surveys. Future physician, staff, inpatient, outpatient, visitor, and other parking demands were projected for each hour of the day between 6 AM and 8 PM. The traffic impacts of the proposed street closure and hospital expansion were evaluated within the Huntington Terrace community and at off-site intersections along Old Georgetown Road. |
