United States Air Force Memorial
Arlington, Virginia
Evocative of flight and the flying spirit, the United States Air Force Memorial honors the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force and its predecessor organizations, according to the Air Force Memorial Foundation.

The Memorial is located on a promontory in Arlington, Virginia, overlooking the Pentagon, and adjacent to Arlington Cemetery.  The Memorial was dedicated on Saturday, October 14, 2006.

The Memorial is located north of Columbia Pike on the inside of a horizontal curve.  Parking is located on the south side of the Pike.

Wells + Associates was retained by the world renowned architects, Pei Cobb Freed, to help design the transportation elements of the Memorial site plan.

Wells + Associates prepared a traffic impact study that included the planned expansion of Arlington National Cemetery.  Wells + Associates estimated peak seasonal vehicular and pedestrian traffic and parking demands, based on information provided by the National Park Service for the U.S. Marine Corps (Iwo Jima) Memorial.

Wells + Associates recommended: a new traffic signal; specific automobile, tour and transit bus, service vehicle, and pedestrian access/egress/ circulation improvements; and parking plans.
