Montgomery Communtiy College
Takoma Park - Montgomery County, Maryland
Wells + Associates conducted transportation planning analysis for the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring West Campus Interim Development Plan assessing both growth in the student population and enhanced Campus cultural facilities and activities.   Montgomery College plans to continue the expansion the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus through 2012 with the following projected development program:

The recently completed Health Sciences Center (98,038 S.F.)
Renovation of an existing vacant bakery as the King Street Arts Center (586 students)
A new Cultural Arts Center (80 students)
A new, unprogrammed building (390 students
A new, above-grade, multi-level parking structure (350 spaces)

Wells + Associates provided a transportation plan that improved pedestrian circulation, accessibility, and convenience.  The plan reduced unnecessary traffic flow in the Campus core and developed a parking plan that would provided sufficient parking to meet the existing and future demands for the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus.

The transportation, pedestrian circulation and parking studies were incorporated into the final Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus Interim Development Plan.  The plan was then reviewed and approved by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC).

In addition, a Local Area Transportation Review (LATR) was conducted for the proposed campus expansion.  This report analyzed the impact of the proposed expansion and general growth at the Campus on the adjacent external roads in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.   The report was reviewed and approved by the MNCPPC.
