| Foggy Bottom Campus Plan Update - Washington, D.C. |
The University is an independent academic institution chartered by the United States Congress in 1821. The Campus includes approximately 44 acres of land in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, DC.
The Foggy Bottom Campus community includes 18,802 undergraduate and graduate students and 6,054 faculty and staff.
GWU’s Campus Plan includes 18 potential academic, residential, and parking building opportunity sites, including a new cancer center and redevelopment of the 1,482-space University Parking Garage. The Plan envisions 2,000,000 S.F. of new high-tech classrooms, labs, offices, residential space, support space, and other modernized University facilities.
The traffic analysis included Washington Circle, over 30 on- and off-campus public street intersections, and all GWU parking lot and garage driveways.
Wells + Associates conducted a multi-modal transportation study that evaluated existing on- and off-campus traffic conditions; existing pedestrian and bicycle facilities, public transportation, on- and off-street parking facilities, and loading facilities; and the effectiveness of the existing Transportation Management Plan (TMP). Traffic operation and TMP changes were recommended to support the proposed Campus Plan Update. |
