| Perimeter Site Security Program Traffic Analysis - Washington, D.C. |
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (BGFRS), like the nation, is faced with new and unprecedented international threats to security. Accordingly, the BGFRS is evaluating acceptable and innovative ways to secure the Marriner S. Eccles and William McChesney Martin, Jr. Federal Reserve Buildings and their occupants from terrorist actions.
Unsightly Jersey barriers have been used along the perimeter of the Martin and Eccles buildings and parking has been removed on the north and south sides of C Street between 20th and 21st Streets.
The BGFRS is considering enhanced perimeter security by relocating a bus stop and removing parking lanes adjacent to the Eccles and Martin buildings to move traffic farther away from the buildings. Parking lanes will be replaced by a sidewalk and/or landscaping.
Wells + Associates was retained by the BGFRS to evaluate the effects on vehicular mobility, displaced parking space users, and Metro/commuter bus stops and routes. Wells + Associates determined that removal of 72 curb parking spaces would most directly affect contractors providing maintenance and service work at the Martin and Eccles Buildings, but would not significantly impact traffic flows. |
