Kiplinger Washington Editors retained Wells + Associates to conduct a transportation study of 880 acres of land near Urbana, in Frederick County, Maryland. This sub-regional study is being coordinated with the development of two nearby projects by the Ward Corporation and the Route 80 Limited Partnership. Major roadway improvements considered in this study included relocation of the existing I-270 interchanges with MD 80 and MD 109, construction of a new interchange near Park Mills Road, bypasses around the historic town of Urbana on MD Routes 80 and 355, and construction of a network of collector and local streets to serve each project. Alternative transit way alignments through the study area were also evaluated.
Wells + Associates identified a road network that adequately accommodates full development of the combined development proposals.
The phased construction of this plan was approved by Frederick County and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
Based on these approvals, the developers formed a road club to implement the recommended improvements. |
